Our New Glossary of Printed Circuit Board Design and Manufacturing

(with Electrical Engineering and related fields.) is currently in development.

noun - Communications Technology Adaptive Network Technology. A radio transceiver protocol, ANT is a proprietary wireless sensor network technology featuring a wireless communications protocol stack that enables semiconductor radios operating in the 2.4 GHz Industrial, Scientific and Medical allocation of the RF spectrum ("ISM band") to communicate by establishing standard rules for co-existence, data representation, signalling, authentication and error detection.

ANT is ported to a semiconductor transceiver from a specialist manufacturer (typically Nordic Semiconductor of Oslo, Norway) for practical implementations.

ANT is characterized by a low computational overhead, and high efficiency that results in low power consumption by the radios supporting the protocol.

The terms included in this glossary all relate in some way to PCB design and only the definitions in that context are included. The definitions are intended to include helpful information for the PCB designer and in this wise may be improved over time.

While the new glossary is being transitioned to and developed, our legacy glossary is still in use.
