Refresh the page if you get an Internal Server Error

<ctrl-R> is the page-refresh keyboard shortcut. Sometimes I get an Internal Server error when testing my glossary, which runs on scripts. I found that a page refresh usually solves the problem.

If the text on a page appears too small, on your keyboard hold the Ctrl key and hit the + key.

Our site is designed to the standards of W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) for CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) and XHTML (eXtensible Hypertext Markup Language). Thus it is accessible with any browser on any operating system. Some of the special effects will drop off with older browser versions, but the site will still be viewable, even with a browser so old-fashioned (or so poorly written) it doesn't implement CSS at all, or implements it very poorly. Also, we may not yet have weeded out all our mistakes of implementation. We validate our CSS and XHTML at W3C's validator sites to find errors and fix them and this can be an ongoing process.

There may be occasional minor glitches depending on the browser. Not all browsers fully comply with the standards for CSS set by W3C. The best browsers for W3C compliance are the latest revisions.

If the background behind the big G logo is black, then your browser is so old that it doesn't support transparent PNG files (PNG alpha channel). If that glitch bothers you, then upgrade your browser to something less than eleven or so years old.

The graphics will be most aesthetic if your display (monitor and graphics card) is capable of and set for True Color (24 bit or better.)

Our particular implementation of CSS known as "liquid layout" means that you can control the display area. To experience this effect, try resizing the browser window. You'll see that our layout compresses and expands to fill up the whole window. This gives our web site broad compatibility with the smallest to the largest video screens.

Pages load extremely fast because we use CSS and a fairly uniform appearance on every page of the same motif. (This page has the motif of a spiral notebook.) If your Internet is broadband, after the first page is loaded, clicking on a link will typically open the next page of our web site in the blink of an eye--so fast you might think nothing happened. But take a second look at the main text and you will see that it has changed.

In this revision of the web site, we have attempted to deliver as much control as possible to you, our visitor. For one, you have complete control over what happens when you click a link. The default is the link will open in the same window and tab. We don't try to take control of your browser. We don't open new windows or new tabs (even on external links) or use pop-ups. If you want the link to behave differently than the default, right-click on it and select one of the options in your browser's pop-up menu.
